Finding out what Paolo Nutini fans like/want in a Music video

Here is Poalo Nutini’s main menu for his website:

I was looking at Poalo Nutini’s website to see the style he’s trying to create, and to find out the type of people that listen to his music, and see if I can incorporate any ideas from his website into are music video. I found lots of references to his music in the images on the website for example, here is a image from the website

and the album is called sunny side up. I notice from the layout and colour use that the style that Paolo Nutini is going for is a indie/acoustic feel sort of like Jamie T where he is trying to be one of a kind. His website is very similar to Jason mraz website using similar colour grade to incorporate the indie feel.

I also found out that if you become a member you could get exist to his blog for his fans to talk about what they like or dislike like about Paolo Nutini. So I thought this would be a get way to get people that are familiar with his work to see if are ideas are similar, or just think that maybe the shots would work well with the music. Here is the blog I posted on the website to make the fans come onto are blog

Here is one of Paolo Nutini's album covers which would have been created on a program like Photo shop. This cover gave me an idea to create a moving imagine creating the same affect.

I look at other people's work where they had created the same sort of affect for example below is the old ipod avert. If we wanted to create something like this we would have to use the green scream, which we have practices with. So with the skills we have learnt we could possibly develop on from this idea.

Paolo Nutini - Candy (analysis)

We liked this video as we like the song style of Paolo Nutini, and his unique style in his music videos, Firstly we thought the the pale and muted colour pallete, combined with the soft focus made a powerful and proffessional image, this fits in with the indie genre. Secondly the part of the song where Paolo is performing, with a push and pull focus of the close ups all cut at a fast pace.we thought this lookied really effective. Thirdly we like the way that as the song slows down, it turns to night, we like the way that in this video it portrays almost a day in the life of paolo nutini, starting in the morning with the wedding through to the night time in bed. we would look to try and incorperate these concepts within our music video.

Within the extra analysis of this video we like the way therre was strong links betweeen lyrics and visuals, for example when the song lyric said angel, there was a picture of an angel, it may seem very basic and amateur but it really does have a strong effect. Also we like that when the pace of the song increases so does the pace of the cuts. Finally we like that there are two narratives within the video, with Paolo playing at a wedding, and then Paolo's love life, there is nothing to suggest that these narratives are interlinked but it may be possible that they are, we like this idea and may have to conjtrasting narratives that cross at the end.

Here are some imagines of the green screen we used the second time round. As you can see we put some brighter lights on the green cloth which had green gels in side the lights, this help as it covered the marks in the cloth. So when it came to editing, the picture we would over lay would work better, than the first time we did it.

Possible Song 1

This is a draft of a possible song and a rough idea how we would edit it, including all the key effects, we like this song as it has religious meanings which would be good as we live in a rural area with a cornucopia of churches, and would be effective in black and white.

Here is the song minus the video, hope you enjoy and would be great to hear your feedback on it

Testing of Slow Motion and Reverse footage on Final Cut within Green Screen

Firstly we created some footage using the green screen and did some shots of us jumping and having a fight, we did these shots as we thought it would look effective in slow motion and reverse, To get these effects we first imported our footage to I movie and then imported into final cut where we cut up the footage using the razor setting, so that we could manipulate the images to how we wanted them, going from slow motion then holding on a still and then speeding up before reversing, after we completed this and through a focus group we decided this looked really strong and we would aim to add this into our final production.

Shots Using The Green Screen With Better Lighting

Here is are tester shot 2, which shows the green screen working well, with the green screen not even coming through the imagine. We got help from Mr Phillips setting up the green screen with better lighting and using the Hd camera which produced better quality imagery. And help when editing the final copy with a imagine back drop come out with miner green marks.

There is also a short imagine of a student which Mr Phillips show us how to use the green screen settings on final cut, so that if we come to do it on are music video we will no how to.

First Tester Shots of Using The Green Screen

Here is me, Adam and Neil using the green screen, to see how it works and to start learning how to use final cut this is so, when we come to make are music video we know how to use the green screen and final cut. We come across some problems when editing, that there was still some green left in the video shot when we over layed the images. This was because we needed brighter lights on the green cloth, and for the cloth to be stretched out more. So we are going to re-shot this scene and try and see if we can make it better.
